1.2 Versions of C Language

❖ C is the most commonly used programming language of the time. It was developed in

    the 1970s.

❖ C has been standardized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and

     international organization for Standardization (ISO) since 1989.

❖ Since the beginning, many versions of C language have been released.

   1. K & R - This was the original C language version which was published by Brian

        Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie.

  2. The first standard C89 - C was published by ANSI in 1989. It is known by the

       name ANSI C and C89.

  3. In C99 - 1999 a new standard of C was published by ISO. Some new built in data

      types, keywords, header files and libraries were added to it.

 4. Another standard of C was published by ISO in C11 - 2007. In this new features

     like type generic macros, anonymous structures and multithreading were added.

    The C11 is the most recent version in the list of the above versions.
